Monrovia, Liberia – Dennis Van Dan Meer, founder of the PTR Foundation, has started a new phase of his endeavors in Liberia with the goal of producing future tennis players.
On April 26, 2024, a procession along Gardnerville Township’s Principle Streets kicked off the launching celebration in Monrovia. Due to the opportunities provided to them, future tennis stars in Liberia, predominantly women, were able to walk with joy while holding their tennis equipment, which included balls and rockets.
The PTR Foundation help is directly affecting Youth for Tennis founded by a Liberian Internationally certified Tennis Coach, Alfred Kandakai. This program has been in existence for the past two years with an objective of teaching kids morality through the means of tennis.
CEO Alfred Kandakai plans are to discourage kids from early marriage, rape, sexual and gender base violence among others. His goal has been about educating them to develop in a grant style by taking their lessons seriously while playing the sport on grounds that the sport has lot of benefits.
Following the climax of the launching ceremony, Youth for Tennis CEO, Alfred Kandakai told our reporters that the PTR Foundation headed by Dennis Van Der Meer has done greatly for his organization.
According to Coach Alfred, Dennis Van Der Mee Foundation awarded him a grant of $2,500 US for the first time in order to improve YFTL’s operations in Liberia.
“I don’t just know how to appreciate the Founder of PTR Foundation for such a gift. I have made several calls on the local scene but nobody came in at all until Mr. Dennis Van Der Meer came to my rescue.”
Young Liberians are eager to participate in sports, but a lack of encouragement is severely hindering their abilities. This ultimately led many of them to become drug addicts and engage in other hazardous activities, which made them lose faith. Football is currently the most popular sport in Liberia, although financial assistance is a problem.
Out of 34 recognized sporting federation and associations by the government, the government is unable to fund three good sports to have better programs on a yearly basis. As a result of such poor preparation, Liberian athletes have consistently performed poorly in international competitions.
Many sports fans have been curious about how Coach Alfred Kandakai will manage to maintain Youth for Tennis since the program’s founding, despite the fact that he has amazing plans for young people who are interested in the sport.
Their concerns were mainly looking at direct financial support, playing facilitates owing to the fact that tennis is an expensive sport, transportation to keep him actively moving from center to another conducting trainings among others.
