Monrovia, Liberia – The Liberia Football Association (LFA) has formally given the Government of Liberia an artificial turf to be installed at the Momo Taweh Sports Pitch in Grand Cape Mount County, in response to a request from His Excellency President Joseph N. Boakai.

LFA President Mustapha I. Raji reaffirmed the association’s dedication to collaborating with the Liberian government to upgrade playing facilities in order to facilitate the growth of football across the country during his remarks at the handover ceremony.

“On behalf of the executive committee, we are pleased about this partnership as part of our own dedication to collaborating with the government in accordance with the President’s vision. Rest assured that we will continue to make every effort to invest in the development of infrastructure throughout Liberia, particularly in the football industry,” Raji stated.ย 

“We think this is one of the best ways to develop infrastructure in our country and create opportunities for both short-term and long-term jobs for our people during the installation period.ย We are really grateful to our Saudi Football Federation friends for sharing these resources with us.”

Additionally, President Raji urged the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to work with athletic federations to fight for future chances of this kind with other national government agencies.

“Through this partnership, we would also like to encourage the government to work with the federations to see how we can keep pressuring friendly countries to bring more of these infrastructure assistance to our nation. We can’t do it alone, but there are plenty of opportunities. We are thus prepared to carry on our cooperation and back such an endeavor. Additionally, we hope that the residents of Cape Mount would accept it and view it as their own creation.”

Cornelia Kruah-Togba, Deputy Minister for Administration at the Ministry of State for Presidential Affairs, accepted the turf on behalf of the government. She thanked the LFA Executive Committee for fulfilling the president’s request and reiterated the government’s determination to work with the LFA to decentralize sports facilities throughout the nation.

“We will join you in your vision to extend and decentralize football pitches across the country in whatever way we can continue through the Ministry of Youth, and we remain committed to doing that.”

In attendance at the handover ceremony, Grand Cape Mount County Senator Debah M. Varplah expressed gratitude to the LFA and the government, via the Ministry of Youth and Sports, for choosing Cape Mount as the recipient county for the sort of development project.

“We are quite appreciative that Grand Cape Mount County is receiving such a development for the first time in the entire region. Cape Mount residents, especially the youth, will be really content, in my opinion.

According to the agreement, the LFA will offer technical assistance when needed, while the government will handle the subbase preparation and turf installation.
