Fourteen years after the county’s founding in 1964 with the aid of former President Williams VS Tubman’s Unification Policy, Emmanuel Sieh has defended Nimba County, helping the county win its sixth National County Sports meet football championship. In the championship game on Sunday, January 15, 2023, at the SKD Sports Complex, Sieh quickly scored two goals in ten minutes to deny Lofa County its second title in history.

The Wolozisi boys took an early 1-0 lead in the game, but terrible defending and a few squandered opportunities led to a humiliating 3-2 loss for them. With a header in the 18th minute, Pascal Harris gave the Wolozisi lads a 1-0 lead. However, before halftime, Emmanuel Sieh’s right-footed close-range shot and a header gave the Mountaineers a 2-1 advantage. In the 53rd minute, Marlu Johnson increased Nimba’s advantage to 3-1, but 15 minutes later, James Tarpeh scored to make it 3-2. A few minutes later, the stadium erupted in excitement when Jeremiah Johnson appeared to have tied the score at 3-3.

However, the second official raised his flag for offside, and Nimba held on to a win 3-2 and claim the title of 2022/2023 Champion. James Tarpeh of Lofa County was named the tournament’s top scorer with six goals, while 16-year-old Emmanuel Sieh of Nimba County finished with five goals and won the MVP of the tournament. The best goalkeeper Eric Tiaway, Best Defender Nelson Laomie, and Best Coach Moutarr Fofana are all from Nimba. Delton Kollie of Rivercess County took home the trophy for Young Player of the competition.

Despite losing the football championship, the Lion was still able to defeat Nimba 2-0 in the kickball competition championship on Sunday, January 15, 2023, at the same location. On Saturday, January 14, 2023, at the SKD Gymnasium, the Lions also defeated Nimba by a score of 72-65 to win third place in the basketball division of the competition.

However, Sinoe County won the championship game against Montserrado County thanks to Carlos Marshall’s three points in the final two seconds. Up until the last two seconds, Montserrado County had a 64-63 lead over Sinoe County. However, Carlos Marshall, who had been selected as the game’s MVP, scored the final three baskets to give Sinoe the victory with 66-64 points as the crowd flooded the floor.
