MOVEE Montserrado County chapter Elects New Leadership

New executives have been elected and installed for a six-year term as the Montserrado County branch of the Movement for Economic Empowerment. Robert Sammy, the national chairman of MOVEE, warned the newly elected officers of the Montserrado County Chapter during the Friday induction ceremony to carry out their duties in accordance with the party’s platform.

He asserts that MOVEE will continue to engage the government objectively and constructively rather than concentrating on unfavorable matters like certain opposition political parties do. He claimed that while MOVEE is a political party with a constitution, it relies on member consensus to make important political decisions for the expansion of democracy in Liberia. Sammy applauded the choice of a woman to lead this contentious county, which carries a heavy burden of duty.

“At the level of MOVEE, we are doing all necessary to ensure that the party becomes the nursery of women’s political empowerment. This is a shred of evidence that women are no longer behind males but they are now leading men in a male-dominated field over the years.”

He expressed the hope that elections would be held peacefully in other counties and that women would exercise their right to run for some important and prominent positions. Sammy thanked the winners while admonishing them to cooperate if the party was to reclaim its standing in Montserrado County.

Molominee Smith, the recently elected chairperson of the Montserrado County Chapter of MOVEE, made a promise during remarks that she would seek to secure motorcycles for each district coordinator to make transportation simple for them. She urged the delegates to cooperate with her so that she could succeed in her role as Chairperson of the Montserrado County Chapter of MOVEE. The days when women were mute and males were given the power to make decisions were over, Madam Smith urged the women, therefore they shouldn’t allow themselves to be backbenchers.

“MOVEE wants us to move forward, and we will undoubtedly do so. I will undoubtedly travel from district to district on purpose to persuade our women to join the movement.”

In order to empower women, Madam Smith committed to forming women’s organizations around the nation to support MOVEE and its agenda. Irene Gardner, Co-Chairperson for Finance; Isaiah Johnson, Co-Chairperson for Mobilization; and Patrick Karmo were also inducted. Hilkiah Flomo, Co-Chairman for Inter Party and NEC Affairs, Adena Benson, Co-Chairperson for Women Affairs, Alfred Natee, Co-Chairman for Youth Affairs, and others were also chosen and inducted.
