Team Cummings warns Gov’t against attack on its members come Dec. 17 Rally

Team Cummings chairman has issued a severe warning to the Liberian government against attacking any of its members at the rally on December 17, 2022, as doing so will ultimately result in the dissolution of the government.

Mr. Lewis Brown, former Information Minister, challenged and defied President George Weah to disrupt the peaceful rally organized by the Collaborating Political Parties.

Addressing a major press conference in Monrovia, Mr. Brown cautioned President Weah to recall his thugs because the CPP will never allow the replica of the July 26 in which several students were severely beaten.

“The attack has given me more energy and confidence to visit various villages to mobilize more people for the peaceful march on December 17; Killing me or any member of Team Cummings will never cancel the rally.”

The former information minister claims that President Weah ordered the attack in response to accusations made against him at his church, where he claimed that Monrovia City Mayor Jefferson Koijee sent thugs to attack him at the Voice of Liberia radio station.

He characterized the assault as a warning of dread and an attempt at government intimidation to prevent the CPP from holding the peaceful march.

Ambassador Brown advised Mayor Koijee to concentrate on the job assigned to him, cleaning the city, because he would never allow himself to be intimidated by anyone. And noted that no amount of coercion will be enough to convince Team Cummings and the CPP to postpone the peaceful march scheduled for December 17, Mr. Brown urged the city mayor.

According to Mr. Brown, the “We Tire Suffering” rally on December 17 will continue to call on the Liberian government to defend its citizens’ right to freely voice their thoughts over the challenging economic circumstances in the nation.

The attack on the Voice of Liberia’s offices on Monday night has been severely condemned by the Coalition for Democratic Change. According to a news release from the CDC National Chairman, Mulbah Morlu, any act of violence that stifles free speech is against the organization’s guiding values.

The news release stressed its flexibility in upholding the rule of law against violent behavior and condemned what it referred to as the brouhaha at the Voice of Liberia. The name of Liberia’s former Ambassador to the UN Lewis Brown was not mentioned in the press release.

According to reports, a fight broke out between supporters of the CDC and CPP on Monday, December 5, 2022, at the Voice of Liberia headquarters where Ambassador Brown was a guest on a late-night talk show.
The number of people that were hurt is unknown, although there have been reports of injuries and arrests by LNP authorities.
