Capitol Hill, Monrovia Liberia – Liberians In an alarming environment, during the Anti drug march campaign on Thursday, August 7, 2025 gathered at the Capital Building in Monrovia to petition the government of Liberia to take immediate action in the fight against illicit drugs.
Advocating for a drug-free nation, hundreds of citizens and residents of Liberia continue to hold stakeholders accountable in the fight against drugs addiction demanding a tougher laws and swift action.
Under the heaven downpour of rain, Mothers, Fathers, brothers and sisters along with law enforcement officers, the peaceful demonstration was marked by a vibrant atmosphere with participants seen carrying placards with messages like “Say No To Drugs,” “Save Our Youth,” “Tougher Laws Now,” among others.
The protesters, from youths to elders, gathered on Capitol Hill to demand urgent government intervention against the widespread of drug abuse and trafficking in the country.
From the proliferation of illicit substances to the damaging impact on individuals and families, this drug crisis is taking away the social fabric, overwhelming healthcare systems, and contributing to rising crime rates.
“We are not asking for vengeance. We are asking for justice and protection. We rise in alarm as illicit drugs ravage our children and communities. You must act, for if you fail to do so, Liberia will lose its next generation. Our schools will be empty, crime rates will continuously increase, and our nation will sink deeper into poverty and despair. But if you act now, you will be remembered as the leader who stood up to save Liberia’s future.”
These include the urgent need for more robust law enforcement and strict penalties for drug traffickers, the establishment and sufficient funding of comprehensive rehabilitation programs for addicts, and enhanced border controls to stem the flow of illicit drugs into the country.
The fight against drugs is not a partisan issue, rather a national emergency affecting every Liberian, regardless of age or background, a decisive action is needed to reclaim communities, save lives, and secure a healthier future for Liberia, protesters urged.
