Africa Rice Country Representative Calls on GoL  to adopt Integrated Rice and Fish Farming

Gbanga, Bong County – Dr. Inausa Arkintayo, the country representative for Africa Rice, has urged the Liberian government to pursue integrated rice and fish farming as a strategy for increasing agricultural output and reducing food poverty.

A climate-smart technology called integrated rice and fish farming makes it possible to raise fish and cultivate rice in the same ecosystem.

In five of Liberia’s 15 counties, the technology made available by the EU-funded DiSare Project has a significant impact on hundreds of farmers.

Dr. Arkintayo asserted that if the government builds on the idea and extends the program to other counties, Liberia will become food-independent and even export rice and fish goods.

His comments came in the wake of the FAO’s most recent report, which listed Liberia as one of 45 African nations with severe food insecurity.
