Capital Hill, Monrovia – The outgoing Ghanaian Ambassador accredited to the Republic of Liberia, Amb. Kwabena Okubi-Appiah has received gratitude from the country’s foreign minister for the amount of help Ghana continues to provide the country’s government and citizens.

Additionally, Minister Kemayah commended Ambassador Okubi-Appiah for his part in fostering the long-standing and bilateral connections between the sisterly Republics of Ghana and Liberia.

On Wednesday, June 28, 2023, the departing Ghanaian ambassador to Liberia, paid Minister Kemayah a farewell courtesy call at the foreign ministry. The two diplomats engaged in a bilateral discussion, and Foreign Minister Kemayah offered the commendation.

Speaking at the meeting on behalf of his government, Foreign Minister Kemayah stated that President George Manneh Weah sincerely expressed his gratitude and best wishes to the departing ambassador for his successful tour of duty in Liberia and that Liberia “recognizes the role Ghana played in the peacekeeping operation, the stability of Liberia, as well as the sustenance of peace and harmony in the sub-region.

The Republic of Ghana played a crucial role in housing thousands of Liberian refugees during the darkest days of the Liberian civil war, the Liberian Foreign Minister also noted at the meeting. Liberia is commemorating 20 years of uninterrupted peace and stability since hostilities ended there, he said, adding that as Ambassador Okubi-Appiah departs the country, it is a special time for Liberians.

The Minister added that the African brothers and sisters, particularly the people of Ghana, made sacrifices in order for Liberians to live in peace and stability today. The Dean of the Cabinet reaffirmed President George Manneh Weah’s unflinching commitment and desire to ensure a secure, impartial, open, and inclusive election in Liberia on October 10, 2023, as well as during the post-election period.

For his part, Amb. Kwabena Okubi-Appiah thanked Amb. Dee-Maxwell Saah Kemayah, Sr. for the cordial welcome and the bilateral assistance provided to him during his tour of duty in Liberia adding that “my task is over and I will be returning home.”

Asserting that his tour of duty was distinguished by outstanding cooperation, Ambassador Okubi-Appiah informed the Liberian Foreign Minister, “I wish to express my gratitude for all the cooperation that made my work in Liberia easy. ”

Additionally, Ambassador Okubi-Appiah noted that his time serving in Liberia had been distinguished by outstanding accomplishments and a strong sense of recollection.

Ambassador Okubi-Appiah indicated that during his diplomatic service in Liberia, he was privileged to interact with key Liberian government officials and other personalities within the country including serving on the 2023 Steering Committee of the National Elections Commission.

The departing Ghanaian representative made sure to mention to Minister Kemayah that he had collaborated with important political figures in Liberia during the country’s time of turmoil.
