Monrovia, Liberia – In order to influence worldwide reforms, China has called on Liberia to increase its involvement in global governance, highlighting the nation’s election as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council (UNSC).
The comments came after President Xi Jinping launched China’s Global Governance Initiative (GGI) on September 1 at the “Shanghai Cooperation Organization Plus” summit in Tianjin, China, according to Chinese Ambassador to Liberia Yin Chengwu.

Coinciding with the UN’s 80th anniversary, the initiative was unveiled along with a concept paper. Its goal is to close the gaps in global governance while fostering effectiveness, justice, and collaboration.
Multilateralism is being put to the test in the midst of turmoil in the international world. According to Amb. Yin, the Global Governance Initiative is well-timed to foster cooperation and reach an agreement.
Five guiding concepts constitute the foundation of the GGI: results-oriented governance, multilateralism, sovereign equality, commitment to the international rule of law, and a people-centered approach.
Amb. Yin stated that these values, which are a reflection of the UN Charter, are meant to guarantee that all nations, regardless of size or income, can take part in and profit from global governance on an equal basis.
The Global Development Initiative (GDI), Global Security Initiative (GSI), and Global Civilization Initiative (GCI) are China’s additional initiatives that collectively cover development, security, culture, and governance, according to Amb. Yin.
He underlined how important Africa is to the reform of global governance. “Africa, as part of the Global South, is both a key stakeholder and an indispensable force in reshaping the international system,” he added, citing Liberia’s longstanding contributions to regional peace, stability, and economic integration.
Yin continued, “Liberia’s election to the UN Security Council offers a chance to make a significant contribution to global governance and promote the interests of developing countries.”
The Ambassador came to the conclusion that in order to promote a more just and efficient international governance system, China is prepared to expand its collaboration with Liberia through the UN, African Union, and other multilateral forums.
