Monrovia, Liberia – On July 24, 2023, the Republics of Ukraine and Ivory Coast presented letters of credence to President George Manneh Weah. President Weah received Letters of Credence from His Excellency Yurii Pyvovarov, the Ukrainian ambassador, and reaffirmed Liberia’s support for the president and people of Ukraine as he looked forward to strengthening the already robust diplomatic ties between the two nations.
President Weah stated in a statement issued by the Executive Mansion that Liberia continues to stand steadfastly behind the courageous and resilient Ukrainian people for upholding their country’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.
“We eagerly look forward to cementing our already strong ties and in multiple areas of cooperation, while at the same time expanding the scope of our cooperation in new avenues of mutual benefits for our countries and peoples.”
Mr. Weah also expressed Liberia’s willingness and openness to participate in all worthwhile initiatives that are aimed at restoring peace to Ukraine, including but not limited to acceding to the Ukraine Peace Formula and full participation in the Global Peace Summit and the Third Summit of the International Crimea Platform.
As he thanked the Liberian President for his country’s warm welcome since his arrival, Ambassador Yurii Pyvovarov praised Liberia as a peaceful and distinctive place. He praised President Weah and Liberians for supporting Ukraine during its difficult times.
“In Africa, Liberia has proven to be a great nation and a good friend. Ukraine will work with Liberia in several areas of cooperation for the betterment of our two countries, most especially in the areas of energy, agriculture, and heath.”
The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Cote d’Ivoire, Madam M’Brah Aya Georgette, also presented letters of credence. President Weah declared that Liberia would continue to collaborate with its neighbor in promoting international peace and security.
He asserts that Liberia is always ready to honor all bilateral agreements and to carry out projects that advance economic gains for the two nations, especially in the fields of mining, manufacturing, agriculture, and peace and security.
The President of Liberia gave the Ambassador and the citizens of the West African nation of Cote d’Ivoire assurances about his commitment to advancing peace and securing the two nations’ borders. He assured the ambassador of his government’s unwavering support in helping her complete her duty.
For their cordial welcome of Ivoirians and other nationals, Madam Georgette commended President Weah and the people of Liberia. “It’s desirable to reinvigorate the relations of cooperation and friendship between Cote d’Ivoire and Liberia on the reactivation of the Ivorian-Liberian Joint Great Commission.”
She remarked that the nations’ relations are excellent and expressed excitement for the implementation of many agreements between them.
