AML Dedicate Modern Water Supply System to Yekepa Town

Yekepa, Nimba – Targeting Yekepa Township in Nimba County, ArcelorMittal Liberia (AML) has installed a number of contemporary water delivery systems in fence-line villages. On Friday, August 22, the company dedicated two finished, completely operational water kiosks in Area Q and Area S of Yekepa, respectively. Although the residents of these areas do not work for the concession, they were given access to a water supply system in order that they may have clean drinking water.

With a 5-meter water towel that holds 500 gallons of water, the project, which is entirely sponsored by AML, features a 75-meter dirt bore hole. In order to supply hundreds of residents with water every day, it has a two-horsepower submersible pump that is connected to an inverter and a solar plate. The water is powered from the ground to the thank and back down to the kiosks, with each kiosk having six faucets that are powered by energy during the day in addition to it.

ArcelorMittal Liberia CEO Michiel Vander Merwe, who spoke at the dedication ceremony, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to enhancing the quality of life for Yekepa Township people in the months to come.

“We are here to stay, I promise you. We are all here to be a part of the community, and we can all take pride in the job that we are doing together. The people that collaborate with us are you. We wish to stay and see you happiness every day. You also work for our company. Because we stay with you, we want to be excellent neighbors.”

In addition to thanking the community for their cooperation with ArcelorMittal, he said that in the coming months, locals would be able to drive through the area with others and witness further community development initiatives. “As you are aware, we recently launched the phase two projet, and we are growing, creating jobs, and working on community projects.”

Moses Gounue, the chairman of the Yekepa Town Council, spoke on behalf of the town and thanked ArcelorMittal for the company’s success. “We are here today because there was an issue with water in the municipality a while back. Given the size of the community, we are thankful to ArcelorMittal officials for maintaining this program not just in area Q but also in other locations.”

The dedication was attended by a number of local government representatives, including Statutory Superintendent Sanniquellie Mah, Ministry of Internal Affairs Liaison Mr. Thomas Suah, Paye Misohn Gbozuah, and an official from the Office of Nimba County Superintendent. Similar water supply systems will be dedicated by ArcelorMittal in the upcoming weeks in Zolowee, Gbarpa, and other locations where work is nearly finished.
