Reiterate Company’s Dedication to Developing Human Potential
Yekepa, Nimba – Kleber Silva, the global mining head for ArcelorMittal paid a surprise visit to Yekepa Hospital and praised the concession’s recent advancements. He promised to keep funding healthcare services for local communities and employees.
Silva, ArcelorMittal’s Global Chief Executive Officer and Vice President for Mining, interacted with the company’s Quality-of-Life team and medical personnel. He added that the corporation is still dedicated to making sure the hospital runs “efficiently and sustainably” and praised their efforts to improve care delivery.
“The hospital must be supported to function effectively,” Silva said, underscoring its role in safeguarding the health and wellbeing of employees, residents and the wider region.
The newly renovated female ward, which hospital administration claims has greatly enhanced patient comfort and care conditions, was a highlight of the tour. The in-house engineering team of ArcelorMittal Liberia’s Quality-of-Life Department, under the direction of civil engineer Gabriel Paye, finished the restoration in less than four months, according to Dr. Paul Whesseh, medical director of Yekepa Hospital.
“The team did an excellent job,” Whesseh said. “I believe Mr. Silva wanted to see firsthand how far we have progressed, and that is why he visited.”
For critical infrastructure needs, Whesseh maintained that the company’s own technical capabilities have proven to be more economical and quicker than outsourcing projects, which can take years to finish.
According to Whesseh, the hospital has also hired more doctors in a variety of specializations to accommodate the growing demand. The facility’s capacity to offer critical care services has gradually increased since it began performing surgeries in August of last year.
In order to maintain proper staffing levels and uphold quality of care, Whesseh pointed out that increased surgical activity has resulted in a growing need for additional nurses. In Nimba County, where ArcelorMittal Liberia is a significant operator, Yekepa Hospital provides care for its workers as well as the local populations.
ArcelorMittal Liberia (AML), a significant iron ore mining company in Liberia, was founded as a division of the multinational steel conglomerate ArcelorMittal. In addition to thousands of contractors, it employs more than 2,000 Liberians permanently and makes improvements to ports and railroads.
