Monrovia, Liberia – Amos Siebo, a representative aspirant has taken the National Elections Commission to the Supreme Court on the grounds that the restrictions it imposes are unfair. The aspirant for Montserrado District #1, said his action for taking the National Elections Commission to the Supreme Court is in an effort to get the current candidate nomination process changed.
Mr. Siebo, who plans to run as an independent candidate, is requesting that the Supreme Court enjoined the elections commission from unfairly imposing unreasonable and unconstitutional conditions on him and all other candidates who wish to run as Independent Candidates.
Mr. Siebo contends in his letter submitted to the court that the commission’s demands are discriminatory and go against Article II (c) of Liberia’s Constitution as modified in 1986, which guarantees equal property rights.
The Montserrado District #1 aspirant maintained that the infractions go much beyond what is required under Article 30 of the same Liberian Constitution in order to take part in parliamentary elections.
