The President of Liberia Amputee football and sports association says all is set for the Amputee National football team participation in the upcoming Tanzania 2021 Amputee African Cup of Nations. The tournament will kick off on the 27th of November to December 5, 2021.

According to Cooper George, the Ministry of Youth and Sports under the stewardship of Zeogar Wilson has been instrumental in handling the services of the Liberia National Amputee football team. The Liberia Amputee Football and Sports and Association President also praised President George Weah for his great efforts rendered to the people with physical disabilities since his presidency.

Cooper made the disclosure to reporters on Friday, November 19, 2021, at the SKD Sports Complex in Paynesville City at the team regular practice ground. “The Government of Liberia through the Ministry of Youth and Sports made available eighty-one thousand United States dollars to Amputee Lone Star team participation in Tanzania 2021. As President of the federation, I see such a gesture as welcoming. Moreover, this is not the first time we have been receiving such help from this government, Cooper highlighted”.

The disabled sport President also said a 22 member delegation including players’ technical staff, and officials will depart the country on Thursday, November 25, 2021, via Kenya Airways for Tanzania. “We are done with every paper works; we just waiting for the departure, Cooper acknowledged”.

For his part, the head Coach of Liberia’s Amputee National football team, Victor Benson said the team is technically and physically prepared to win the upcoming Championship. According to Coach Benson, he has added five new faces to beef up the team’s strength as they prepare for the tournament.

We had an inexperienced team when we participated in the last edition in Benguela, Angola in 2019, but we still managed to have finish 3rd in that tournament. This time, with the number of great players we have recruited followed by the return of Samuel Tengbeh from Turkey, is a great boost for us. Remember, Samuel Tengbeh is the first Liberian Amputee professional footballer, his returned main a lot to the team. Moses Jarbo, Prince Chea, Wesseh Saylee are new faces we just recruited for the tournament and their abilities are very much outstanding.

The only challenge we face for now is the issue of buse to help transport our players. For instance, we are disabled; getting regular transport vehicles is very challenging based on our conditions. As Coach of the team, I am making this passionate appeal to well-wishers, humanitarian organizations, our committed President, Mr. George Mannah Weah to help us with at least a 35 seated bus, Coach Victor Benson appealed.

Meanwhile, Liberia will take on Ethiopia on November 27, and the Gambia on the 28, 2021. The red, white, and blue boys will then climax the zonal stages of the competition against Cameroon on November 29, 2021. Two teams will qualify from each group for the knockout stage. Angola goes in the tournament as defending Champions following a 2:0 win over Nigeria in the last edition when they hosted.
