ArcelorMittal Liberia Expands Housing Renovation Program

Boost Staff Accommodation in Buchanan

Buchanan, Grand Bassa County – ArcelorMittal Liberia has expanded its ongoing housing renovation program to Buchanan as part of efforts to improve staff accommodation across its concession areas. The company’s Estate Department is anticipated to get the 24 homes in Area-R that are presently undergoing renovations by the end of October.

The World Engineering and Construction Company, a Liberian-owned company, was praised for its professionalism and speed in finishing its contract ahead of schedule by Rufus Dickson, ArcelorMittal Liberia’s Construction Engineer in Yekepa, who made the statement after visiting the site.

The World Engineering and Construction Company completed the task on time and with great quality. The Estate Department is considering giving the firm another contract because of their performance, which has boosted their confidence, Mr. Dickson added.

He pointed out that other contractors are still putting in a lot of effort to finish their own tasks.

The company’s efforts to repair properties damaged and taken during Liberia’s civil war include the six units, each of which has three independent rooms and a visitor’s restroom. The refurbished homes will be utilized to host visitors after they are finished.

In anticipation of the formal handover, plumbers were seen installing water and sewage lines during a site visit on September 29.

Mr. Dickson also said that the same construction company has been authorized to renovate an additional forty-five housing units. After they are finished, the 45 units all of which are in the Area-R area will be given to local staff.

In order to solve the accommodation difficulties affecting local staff, he noted, Maria DeSilva, Head of the Estate Department, is taking a firm lead in making sure the next remodeling phase is finished on time.

To increase space and occupancy, existing staff quarters are being extended in addition to these modifications. For example, a number of homes in the EA community, where senior personnel live, have been expanded to accommodate several families rather than just one.

According to Mr. Dickson, plans are also underway to renovate unoccupied houses in Area-D, which will be allotted to local employees once completed.

The house repair project by ArcelorMittal Liberia is a component of the company’s larger effort to improve living conditions and employee welfare in its concession areas throughout Liberia.
