ArcelorMittal Liberia has signed its 6th Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) with the United Workers Union of Liberia (UWUL), Local #4, marking another milestone in strengthening labor relations and improving employee welfare.
The new CBA signed on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, delivers several benefits for employees, including a 14.5% salary increment, 15 days of paid annual leave, and a 75% increase in housing allowance to facilitate workers owning their own homes, among others.
“Today is a proud day for the workers of ArcelorMittal Liberia. After two long months of negotiation, we are signing the sixth Collective Bargaining Agreement, a document that represents the sweat, the sacrifice, and unwavering determination of workers. This agreement has delivered salaries and housing allowance increments that will lift the standard of living for our members and their families. It has secured a commitment to job mapping and restructuring within six months to guarantee fairness and transparency,” Sneh said.
AML Chief Operating Officer, Anthony P. Kocken on behalf of the CEO Michiel Van Der Merwe thanked both negotiation teams representing management and the workforce, noting the agreement shows that AML values its workforce. The agreement, Kocken said forms a cornerstone of partnership among ArcelorMittal, the workforce, the workers’ union and other stakeholders, as the company moves into the Phase Two Expansion Project.

Described as “the heartbeat of our operations,” the agreement demonstrates AML’s dedication to cultivating a respectful and cooperative relationship with its workers.
It is anticipated that the 6th CBA will have a major impact on enhancing labor harmony, worker happiness, and general productivity in Liberia’s mining industry.
