Archbishop Halts Burial Plans, Welcomes Police Investigation

In Catholic Priests Death

Monrovia, Liberia – Burial plans have been abruptly suspended, and the Catholic community in Monrovia is in a state of turmoil as the archbishop admits a police inquiry into the untimely deaths of two priests.

On Friday, March 20, 2026, the Archdiocese of Monrovia, through Most Rev. Dr. Gabriel Blamo Jubwe, Metropolitan Archbishop of Monrovia, described the deaths of Very Rev. Fr. Alphonsus B. Mombo and Very Rev. Fr. Roland G. Biah as deeply distressing and inexplicable.

According to the archbishop, instead of embalming the bodies, police authorities have ordered that they be kept for a possible autopsy as part of the continuing investigation.

According to him, the church has given the funeral home specific instructions to follow the police’s orders and is completely collaborating with state authorities.

While mourning the loss, the archbishop reassured the people that updates will be given as soon as formal results are made public and reaffirmed his dedication to finding the truth.

The leader of the Catholic church is urging clergy, members of the congregation, and the larger Christian community to continue praying, offer support to the bereaved families, and look for courage and hope during this trying time. He claims that prayers have also been said for the rest of the departed faithful and the souls of the deceased.
