Archbishop Jubwe Urges Priests  To “Be More United” At Chrism Mass.

Monrovia, Liberia – The Catholic Archbishop of Monrovia, His Grace Rev. Dr. Gberial Blamo Snosio Jubew, has encouraged priests in the Archdiocese of Monrovia to “be more united” in their performance of their holy responsibilities at the annual Chrism Mass on Wednesday, April 15, 2025, at the holy Heart Cathedral in Monrovia.

As they reaffirmed their priestly vows and commitments, the Archbishop stressed the value of clergy unity, calling on them to serve in concord with one another and to fulfill their vows with renewed vigor for the faithful’s and the Church’s spiritual development.

“This vow reminds us of our common mission. “But more than ever, I call on all priests to be more united, in spirit, in service, and in purpose. Only in unity can we be true shepherds of Christ’s flock,” Archbishop Jubwe added.

“Our people are looking to us for leadership, not only in the sacraments but in our example. Let unity begin with us,” he stated.

Traditionally held during Holy Week, the Chrism Mass is a solemn ritual in which the Archbishop blesses the oils used for the sacraments all year long, such as the Sacred Chrism, the Oil of the Sick, and the Oil of Catechumens.

Dozens of priests reaffirmed their priestly vows in front of the Archbishop and a crowd of seminarians, lay faithful, religious sisters, and Catholic community members during the Mass.

“Unity among us is vital. It reminds us that we are not serving in isolation but as one body of Christ,” he said.

In addition, Archbishop Jubwe urged priests to emulate Christ’s selflessness and humility, particularly during difficult and polarizing times. As the Church gets ready for Easter, the occasion also served as a time for introspection and recommitment. One of the most significant liturgical occasions in the Catholic calendar, the Chrism Mass establishes the spiritual tone for the Easter Triduum.
