Monrovia, Liberia – According to the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission, government officials are complying with the order to reveal their assets, and they are on track. Vice Chairperson of the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission Ernest Hughes said during a press conference on Thursday at the LACC office that government officials are complying with the Commission’s directive to reveal assets and other financial information in large numbers.
He noted that since the deadline on December 12th, the LACC has received around 100 declarations from public servants in ministries, agencies, and commissions. Others are urged to comply but have not yet declared their assets because of where they live, according to the Vice Chairperson of LACC.
“We are made aware that several government officials are currently away from the country on official business and have been unable to declare their assets or other financial information.”
“We encourage those officials away on official duties to come to LACC and comply immediately on their return. This is not an extension of the deadline, but rather an opportunity to provide those government officials with an opportunity to comply.”
The LACC is compiling a list of government officials who have disclosed their assets but are not in compliance with the law, he added, and in the coming days, Ministries, Autonomous Agencies and Commissions, the Legislature and Judiciary branches of government, and the Executive Branch will have published it.
