Boakai and Macron Reaffirm France-Liberia Relations

Monrovia, Liberia – With a bilateral meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron at the Élysée Palace, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai Sr. began his state visit to France with the goals of strengthening ties between Liberia and France, increasing collaboration in vital development areas, and raising Liberia’s stature internationally.

President Boakai emphasized Liberia’s historic position as Africa’s oldest republic and one of the four original signatories of the United Nations Charter, according to a statement from the Executive Mansion.

According to him, Liberia’s recent victory for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council is both symbolic and strategic because it is the only one of these four countries to have never served a full term on the body.

President Boakai asked President Macron to back Liberia’s bid to be the chair and co-chair of four UN sanctions committees once the P5 level of discussion begins. Additionally, he highlighted Liberia’s continued dedication to inclusive growth by emphasizing programs that empower women and people with disabilities.

Both leaders emphasized how crucial it is to use technical cooperation and follow-up procedures decided upon during the visit to turn discussions into action.

President Boakai extended a cordial invitation to President Macron to visit Liberia as part of a state visit, which the French leader enthusiastically accepted. Finalizing the visit’s schedule and procedures has been left to the Foreign Ministries of both governments.
