    Strengthening Economic Ties, Youth Development

Monrovia, Liberia – Mr. Lakshmi N. Mittal, Executive Chairman of ArcelorMittal, one of Liberia’s most important industrial partners, met with President Joseph Boakai on his recent trip to Italy. During the meeting, ArcelorMittal reaffirmed its longstanding commitment to Liberia’s economic growth and emphasized the company’s and the government’s shared goal for the future of the nation.

Having been in business in Liberia for seventeen years, ArcelorMittal has contributed significantly to the industrial development of the nation by employing more than 7,000 Liberians in mining and other activities.

Mr. Mittal stressed throughout the discussion the company’s close ties to Liberia and its strategic significance in the country’s economy. According to Mittal, “ArcelorMittal’s operations are crucial for Liberia’s future vision in addition to being vital to the nation’s current economic framework.”

Mr. Mittal met with President Boakai in Monrovia on his visit to Liberia earlier this year, and this meeting comes after that. ArcelorMittal reaffirmed during that visit the company’s intention to grow its business in Liberia and keep funding the nation’s infrastructure, especially in the mining industry. By sponsoring local firms, offering training programs, and offering scholarships, the corporation has also been committed to giving Liberians access to opportunities. In order to promote sustainable development, Mr. Mittal reaffirmed that ArcelorMittal’s engagement in Liberia is a long-term collaboration.

According to President Boakai’s response to Mr. Mittal’s comments, international investors such as ArcelorMittal have made substantial contributions to Liberia’s economy and wider development objectives. He hailed ArcelorMittal as a model investor and referred to existing investors as “ambassadors” for those who are thinking about conducting business in Liberia. “By supporting the training and development of young Liberians, investors like ArcelorMittal are not only contributing to our economy but are also helping to shape the future of our nation,” Boakai said.

Preparing Liberia’s young for leadership roles in the future was a major topic of discussion throughout the summit. Long-term progress in Liberia depends on funding young training and development, according to President Boakai, and international partners like ArcelorMittal are vital to this endeavor. “For our young people to assume leadership roles and significantly impact the growth of our country, they require the necessary education and training. “ArcelorMittal’s involvement is invaluable in this area,” Boakai continued.

In order to give young Liberians the skills they need for jobs in the mining industry and other fields, ArcelorMittal has been actively involved in youth development efforts through its technical and vocational training programs. By developing a competent labor force, these initiatives have helped Liberia prepare for future economic expansion.

At the end of the discussion, all parties committed to strengthening the solid basis of collaboration between ArcelorMittal and the Liberian government. Both sides conveyed hope for the future and intentions to look into other investment options that would support the sustainable development of Liberia.

It is anticipated that ArcelorMittal’s function as a major investor and development partner would continue to be essential to Liberia’s economic growth as it expands and operates there. Liberia’s industrial sector will continue to be shaped by the company’s training, employment, and community involvement activities with continued government assistance.

The meeting last week represents a milestone in the continuing collaboration between ArcelorMittal and Liberia, indicating a promising future for the nation’s economic development and youth empowerment.
