Boakai Calls for Unity, Compassion At Presidential Iftar

Monrovia, Liberia – As the nation continues to face economic and social issues, President Joseph N. Boakai has urged Liberians to reinforce national unity, increase empathy for the weak, and cooperate in reconstructing the country. House Speaker Richard Nagbe Koon made special remarks on behalf of the President at the 2026 Presidential Iftar Dinner in Monrovia on Friday, March 13, 2026. He stressed that the holy month of Ramadan for Muslims symbolizes discipline, humility, generosity, and service to humanity in addition to fasting.

The annual event, which took place on Friday at the Executive Pavilion, brought together prominent visitors, religious leaders, top government officials, and members of Liberia’s Muslim community to commemorate interfaith harmony in the nation and mark the approaching conclusion of Ramadan.

Speaker Koon mentioned in the President’s address that despite being a minority in Liberia, Muslims continue to make important contributions to the country’s growth. “Across our towns and villages, in our markets, farms, schools, businesses, and public institutions, Muslim citizens continue to make meaningful contributions to the peace, unity, and development of our beloved Republic,” the statement read.

In his speech, President Boakai emphasized the value of religion in fostering national unity, pointing out that Liberia’s religious variety has always acted as a bridge for harmony rather than conflict. “Our churches and mosques have consistently played a vital role in guiding our communities toward forgiveness, tolerance, and national harmony,” the message said.

The President also called on religious leaders to keep influencing society’s moral course, especially by teaching youth to be disciplined, honest, and respectful of others. We must stand together against hatred, violence, and the destructive influences that threaten the well-being of our nation,” the statement emphasized.

As he considered Liberia’s past, Boakai recognized the nation’s transition from times of strife and division to periods of renewed peace and stability, emphasising that national advancement relied on shared accountability. “Our collective future depends on our ability to work together, not as separate groups, but as one people united under God,” he said.

The President stressed that the government cannot accomplish the nation’s development objectives on its own while reiterating his administration’s commitment to institutional strengthening, economic recovery, and increasing opportunities for youth. “It will require the prayers, partnership, and collective commitment of all Liberians,” the message added.

Boakai urged Muslims to keep praying for Liberia’s peace, harmony, and prosperity as Ramadan draws to a close. He also urged people to show kindness and compassion to those in need. In order to uphold Liberia’s long-standing culture of religious tolerance between Christians and Muslims, the Presidential Iftar Dinner has become an annual tradition.

“May this holy month renew our spirits, deepen our faith, and strengthen our resolve to build a peaceful, united, and prosperous Liberia,” the President stated.
