To Participate in 2nd Indonesia-Africa Forum in Bali

Monrovia, Liberia – A high-level delegation from the Liberian government will go to the People’s Republic of China and the Republic of Indonesia on August 30, 2024, under the leadership of President Joseph N. Boakai. As to the announcement from the Ministry of Information, Culture, and Tourism, the President will take part in the 2nd Indonesia-Africa Forum in Bali, Indonesia from September 1-3, with other African Presidents, when he is in the country.

The President’s visit to Indonesia will commemorate 69 years of friendship and collaboration between the two nations, as well as a shared history of fighting against colonial domination and advancing African liberation.

Since the 1950s, when we both supported Afro-Asian solidarity to end colonialism, Indonesia and Liberia have worked together on a variety of fronts. During the Cold War, we were important allies in the UN’s Group of 77 Non-Aligned Movement. In many areas, the two counties share interests in economic development.

The two nations hope to deepen their cooperation during the second Indonesia-Africa Forum by raising rice production for both domestic consumption and export, as well as by expanding palm oil production and refining.

Together with Senator Augustine Chea of Sinoe County and Representative Nathaniel Baway of Grand Kru County, the delegation from the government to Indonesia includes First Lady Katumu Y. Boakai, Foreign Minister Sara Beysolow-Nyanti, Minister of State for Presidential Affairs Sylvester M. Grigsby, Health Minister Dr. Louise M. Kpoto, Agriculture Minister Dr. J. Alexander Nuetah, Minister of State Without Portfolio Mamaka Bility, and National Investment Commission Chairman Jeff Blibo.

It is reported that High-level talks between President Boakai and his delegation will take place in Indonesia with the aim of securing cooperation and backing for the agricultural sector, particularly in the areas of oil palm, rice, rubber, and value chain development; energy and petroleum; water supply and sanitation; public health research and development; tourism and hospitality; education; scholarships; and opportunities for scientific research, among other things.

Concurrently, it is anticipated that the President and a subset of his group would participate in the Forum for China-Africa-Cooperation (FOCAC), which is slated to take place in Beijing from September 4-6, 2024.

Along with the President on his visit to Beijing are the following government officials: Samuel Kofi Woods, National Security Advisor; Jerolinmek Piah, Minister of Information, Cultural Affairs, and Tourism; Amin Modad, Minister of Commerce; and Clr. Neto Zarzar Lighe, Commissioner/Chief Executive Officer of the Liberia Maritime Authority. “Gregory Coleman, Inspector-General of Police; Sekou Dukuly, Managing Director of the National Port Authority and Eugene L. Fahngon, Director-General of the Liberia Broadcasting System, are expected to form part of the delegation.

The China-Africa Forum presents the opportunity for African and Chinese Leaders to engage on matters of mutual interests, and President Boakai is glad to make the case for Liberia as an attractive destination for investments from the People’s Republic of China.

Ahead of this meeting, President Boakai remarked that cooperation with Beijing is pivotal in supporting his vision to transform Liberia through the ARREST Agenda.

While the President is out of the Country, the Minister of Justice, Clir. N. Oswald Tweh, will chair the cabinet and coordinate the affairs of the state in consultation with the President. The President and the team will return to Liberia on Sunday, September 8, 2024.
