Attends Liberia Investment Forum
Monrovia, Liberia – President Joseph N. Boakai has departed Liberia for Canada to attend the 2024 Liberia Investment Forum. Speaking with reporters Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at the Roberts International Airport in lower Margibi County, President Boakai said, the trip to Canada is an invitation extended him; adding that he will make good use of the great opportunity for Liberia’s development.
According to him, Canada is one of those places that has lot of opportunities and Liberians are also living there. The Liberian leader explained that the Forum presents a unique opportunity to not only engage with investors and financial institutions but also to solidify bilateral relations between Liberia and Canada.
President Boakai indicated that the relations have been maintained, albeit indirectly, through the Liberian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The forum which is expected to take place in Toronto, Canada on Thursday, September 19, 2024, will be hosted by National Investment Commission (NIC), Liberia Trade
and Investment in Canada (TIC) and QE24 Group of Companies (Liberia), Inc.
During the forum, Liberians will showcase diverse investment potential and attract foreign direct investment (FDI) that aligns with the country’s sustainable economic development goals, job creation,
and industrial growth.
The NIC is the Liberian government agency responsible for promoting and facilitating investment, while Liberia Trade and Investment in Canada is the Liberian Government entity dedicated to building a dynamic bridge between Liberia’s vibrant economy and the Canadian business community and the QE24 Group of Companies (Liberia) Inc. is a Liberian company specializing in construction, global trade, and business development.
Since the diplomatic relations between Liberia and Canada in 1971, there are over 30,000 Liberians residing across Canada, with the majority concentrated in Ontario, Quebec, and Alberta. Despite the significant diaspora population, Liberia has lacked an official presence in Canada since the 1980s.
The recent establishment of the office, Liberia Trade and Investment in Canada; located in Mississauga, Ontario, marks the first official Liberian government presence in Canada since the war.
