Washington D.C, USA – President Joseph N. Boakai has assured Liberians living abroad that their investments in Liberia would always be safeguarded, adding that they would contribute to the nation’s development. This assurance was made on the second day of the Liberia diaspora conference in the United States of America.
Amb. Boakai stated that in order improve the nation, safeguard investments, and create a transparent system, his government will collaborate with the diaspora Liberians to strengthen the system. The president stated that his government is committed to creating a nation of healing and reconciliation for a better future and noted that Liberia is on a path of growth that no one can stop.
Although this is just the beginning, he continued, “I know that when Liberians say they will do something, they will do it, and you will do it too.” Mr. Boakai clarified that others will recognize and join the nation’s development initiative as a result of the path it has taken.
He urged the diaspora Liberians to go back home and contribute to the nation’s reconstruction. President Boakai reminded Diasporans that there are many positive things back home, but Liberians must work to make them materialize. No matter how you got here, the President said, “it was time to come, and now it’s time to go home.”
He reminded them to play a significant role in the process, saying that people are now clamoring to enter Liberia as if it were a brand-new revelation. “Do not delay in returning home; there are plenty of chances and lands there, and only Liberians can assume responsibility for rebuilding Liberia,” he said.
The Liberian leader also urged them to recognize the importance of transforming their large remittance into clinics, industries, scholarships, and other projects back home. He claimed that the conference has reiterated the fact that inclusion and group approaches are the best ways for Liberia to grow rather than on its own.
He pointed out, “I always told people that you can loan Liberia, but you can’t sell it.”
President Boakai informed Liberians living abroad that his administration is still dedicated to turning the meeting into action for the benefit of the Liberian people. He asked all Liberians and stakeholders to do more while praising them for their contributions to Liberia.
