Boakai Reiterates Support for Liberian-Owned Businesses

As he unveils Uptown Garage Facility

Monrovia, Liberia – The new Uptown Garage facility has been officially opened by President Joseph N. Boakai, who used the occasion to reiterate his administration’s strong commitment to local entrepreneurship and Liberian-owned enterprises as a means of fostering economic progress, job creation, and national pride.

Speaking at the dedication ceremony on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, the President commended Uptown Garage Group of Companies for its more than 30 years of service to the Liberian people and characterized the new facility as a representation of perseverance, vision, and determination accomplish with the correct policies and leadership.

“This is not just the opening of a building. It is the opening of opportunities. It is proof that Liberians can own, manage, and grow serious businesses in their own country and compete fairly in their own economy,” he added.

The President also praised the company for growing from a small local auto repair company to a significant player in the importation and distribution of new cars, a market that has historically been controlled by foreign-owned businesses.

In his speech, President Boakai stressed the significance of government agencies and big businesses supporting Liberian companies and fulfilling their financial commitments to them. He pointed out that although big international corporations generate jobs, small and medium-sized Liberian businesses employ far more people overall and should be given intentional support.

“When Liberian businesses succeed, the country succeeds. We must protect and support them, because once one succeeds, it becomes a reference point for others,” the President stated.

He granted business owners the assurance that his government will keep providing roads, energy, security, and a stable policy environment to support local businesses as they develop and spread throughout the nation. The President also commended Uptown Garage for its dedication to professionalism, quality, and openness, pointing out that respectable companies gain credibility by acting morally rather than taking short cuts.

President Boakai urged other Liberians to make daring domestic investments as he formally opened the facility and reassured them of his administration’s steadfast support. “This is how nations are built,” he said. “By citizens who believe in their country and are willing to invest honestly in its future.”

Sekou Bility, the founder’s son and manager of Uptown Motor Group of Companies, praised his parents, especially his mother, Mari Bility, and father, Mr. Ansu Bility, for their vision, discipline, and selflessness in starting the company from scratch.

“For over 30 years, your dedication has created opportunities, empowered young people, and contributed meaningfully to Liberia’s economy. Uptown Garage was built not just to make profit, but to create jobs, restore dignity, and prove that Liberian businesses can thrive,” Bility said.

Additionally, he appreciated the Boakai administration for creating an atmosphere that made it possible for Uptown Garage, a fully Liberian-owned business, to obtain exclusive dealership rights for new cars made by foreign automakers.

The new factory is a “premium hub” and a significant turning point for Liberian enterprise, according to the manager of Uptown Motor. “This milestone belongs to you, Mr. President. Your belief that Liberians should not be spectators in their own economy gave us the confidence to scale up, invest, and compete,” Bility narrated.

The leadership of Uptown Garage reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining excellence, ethics, and service while supporting Liberia’s ongoing progress.
