Boakai Talks Tough

Says “A Country That Cannot Provide For The Poor Cannot Protect the Rich”

Capitol Hill, Monrovia – The government’s ability to protect national peace and prosperity depends heavily on its dedication to meeting the needs of the weak and poor, President Joseph N. Boakai reminded his Cabinet. According to him, “A nation that cannot provide for the poor cannot protect the rich,” during a Cabinet meeting held at the Executive Mansion on Friday, September 5, 2025.

The President’s statement was an element of a larger appeal for accountability, inclusive governance, and development that is focused on the people. Boakai also cautioned that disregarding the dire circumstances of the vast majority of the impoverished might worsen social and economic unrest and jeopardize security and peace.

President Boakai emphasized that the government must continue to be aware of its duty to alleviate poverty, fight inequality, and guarantee that everyone benefits from the nation’s resources. His remarks, however, are made in the midst of growing concern over inflation, unemployment, and restricted access to basic services, especially in the areas of infrastructure, education, and health.

Additionally, Boakai challenged Cabinet members to create and carry out policies that benefit common Liberians as well as elites. “Action is what our citizens expect, not just speeches. How we treat the weakest among us determines the survival of our democracy and the stability of our country,” he stated.

He warned his fellow workers that social upheaval is always a possibility when poverty increases and reminded them that history has demonstrated that countries fall apart when the people feel ignored. He maintained that the legitimacy of the government rests on its capacity to improve the lot of the underprivileged.

President Boakai emphasized the need for ministries and agencies to make sure that policies are not only well-written but also well implemented. He noted that each member of the Cabinet is responsible for producing outcomes that are relevant to the everyday challenges of average Liberians.

The President also called for achievable objectives and deadlines, urging his Cabinet to take a results-oriented approach. According to him, ministries and SEOs are needed to provide progress reports on a regular basis to make sure that the promises given to the Liberian people are fulfilled.

The Liberia leder additionally pointed out that the importance of openness in government, pointing out that poor people are denied chances due to corruption and poor management. Boakai emphasized that if national inequality increases uncontrollably, protecting the wealthy is pointless. He maintained that disparate riches leads to brittle societies where peace is continuously in jeopardy.

According to President Boakai, when the many are living in misery, the comfort of the few will always be in jeopardy.
