Monrovia, Liberia – President Joseph N. Boakai has urged Justice Minister Cllr. J. Oswald Tweh to have no fear when it comes to potential corruption suspects that an audit report may reveal.
Speaking at the start of his administration’s fifth cabinet meeting on Friday, August 2, 2023, President Boakai declared that, in his capacity as the nation’s leader, he has no qualms about holding dishonest people accountable.
The President claimed that Cllr. Tweh should not be involved in bringing dishonest officials to justice, and that the Minister should ensure that the proper action is taken instead.
The Liberia Leader clarified that his administration will keep pursuing those who have embezzled public funds, emphasizing that citizens seek accountability.
“Even if they name me a witch-hunter, we would pursue them and bring them to justice because Liberians will value.”
President Boakai at the same time issued a warning to his cabinet members on incompetence and misconduct in his administration. He assured cabinet members and ministers that his administration would not put up with any covert plans to carry on with business as usual.
Boakai declared, “With sufficient information, we will follow you if you come to the cabinet to do the same thing that you think used to happen. You are going to depart as soon as we identify them and I don’t care who asks for you to come back, you are not coming back.”
“We are here to serve the Liberian people. Anybody who comes with a hidden agenda, you may be here but when we fire you, we are not going to the person who recommended you. It’s about time that we know we are serving the Liberian people. I am not afraid of anybody. God will protect me.“
According to the President, he has made it his mission to choose honest individuals who love their nation and are prepared to work for its betterment from the very beginning of his administration.
Although he insisted that he is absolutely certain of what he is doing, he continued that if someone misses the mark, it is a sign that they are alerting him that they have erred.
“When we started bringing ministers, we decided to bring people with integrity. People that love the country and want a good country. The moment you start missing that, you are telling me that I made a mistake and I don’t think I made a mistake.“
