Boakai to depart Liberia for U.S. today

To attend diaspora gathering to strengthen ties with Liberians abroad and UNGA.

Capitol Hill, Monrovia – President Joseph N. Boakai will today, September 8, 2025, depart Liberia for the United States of America to participate in two major international engagements, a global diaspora conference and the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

The president is expected to use the diaspora meeting while in America to increase support for national development, promote investment back home, and strengthen links with Liberians abroad. In addition, President Boakai will join world leaders at the UNGA in New York to discuss urgent global concerns including international collaboration, climate change, sustainable development, and peace and security.

It is also anticipated that his involvement will draw attention to Liberia’s post-conflict reconstruction initiatives and government reforms. The trip, which is one of President Boakai significant overseas travel since assuming office in January 2024, highlights the administration’s efforts to bring Liberia back into the spotlight.
