Boakai to face Trump

Departs Liberia for U.S–African Summit.

Monrovia, Liberia – President Joseph N. Boakai departed the Liberia to Washington, D.C., for a working visit. Boakai is one of five African heads of state who have been invited by U.S. President Donald J. Trump to attend the African Leaders Summit, which will take place in the White House from July 7–11, 2025, according to a July 7, 2025, Executive Mansion statement.

The purpose of the high-level summit is to strengthen security cooperation, promote common economic objectives, and strengthen diplomatic connections between the US and a few African countries. The heads of state of Gabon, Guinea Bissau, Mauritania, and Senegal will also be present at the summit.

President Boakai will have bilateral talks with President Trump and other top U.S. officials during the Summit on a number of important topics, such as democratic consolidation, energy cooperation, security, governance, and economic growth. The visit will also concentrate on strengthening new areas of cooperation in infrastructure, education, and health as well as reaffirming Liberia’s long-standing connection with the United States.

The Liberian leader is accompanied by a high-level delegation of government officials and technical experts, including Chief Minister of Foreign Affairs Sara Beysolow Nyanti, Minister of Finance Augustine Ngafuan, National Security Advisor Samuel K. Woods II, Military Advisor to the President Major General Daniel Ziankahn (Rtd.), Chairman of the National Investment Commission Jeff Bilbo, Director General of the Cabinet Nathaniel Kwabo, and Special Envoy Bedell Sandi.

The visit also includes the President’s teams on security, communications, and protocol. The president is anticipated to return to Liberia on July 11, 2025, after the conference concludes.
