Kakata, Margibi County – A 40-foot cargo container filled with various educational supplies has been presented to BWI in Kakata, Margibi County, on September 2, 2025, by the Booker Washington Institute (BWI) Class of 1987–1990 in partnership with Villanova University.
The container, which was delivered to BWI Principal Mrs. Nancy Freeman by Mr. Abu Dekontee Sanso, Regional Director (BWI) Class of 1987-1990, included desks, chairs, tables, bookshelves, whiteboards, and other necessary materials from Villanova University in the United States.
According to Mr. Sanso, the Class of 1987–1990 launched the program as a way to support BWI’s aim of preparing students for college, technical, and vocational careers while also giving back to their alumni school.
BWI Principal Mrs. Nancy Freeman expressed gratitude for the gesture, pledging that the materials will be used for their intended purpose to enhance teaching and learning at the institution.
David G. Bantoe, the Pennsylvania councilman for Upper Darby’s 6th District, organized the shipment and made the donation possible. Councilman Bantoe praised Villanova University and the alumni class for their collaboration, pointing out that the funding will enhance BWI’s contribution to workforce development and sustainability for the upcoming generation of professionals in Liberia.
He asserted that the BWI Class of 1987–1990 will keep looking for ways to help the school and aid in its expansion and human resource development. “It is important that our compatriots in the U.S. and across the world give back to BWI,” Councilman Bantoe noted.
