Cabinet Praises Historic Billion-Dollar Budget

Endorses Significant Jobs Initiative

Monrovia, Liberia – President Joseph N. Boakai and cabinet members have approved several significant national priorities, such as the country’s first-ever budget exceeding one billion dollars, an accelerated jobs strategy, and a more forceful national response to drug abuse.

The meeting took place in Bomi county on Tuesday, December 2, 2025. During the meeting, the Cabinet approved the development of a National Employment Acceleration Strategy. Through investment-driven initiatives, more public works, skill development, and targeted support for small and medium-sized enterprises, this all-encompassing framework will boost employment generation.

A renewed dedication to dependable national data systems is another component of the agenda. The Cabinet did, however, order LISGIS, the National Investment Commission, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Ministry of Labor, and the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning to oversee its implementation and submit quarterly reports.

The Cabinet was briefed by the Minister of Finance and Development Planning during the meeting with the recently presented FY2025/26 National Budget, which is the first in Liberia’s history to surpass US$1 billion.

As the budget proceeds to the Legislature for review, Cabinet ministers pledged unanimous support and approved its strategic direction.

“Crucial steps toward improving livelihoods, reinforcing national security, and accelerating the country’s development agenda,” the Liberian leader said in his speech.
