As Catholics Conclude Jubilee Pilgrimage
Monrovia, Liberia – As thousands of pilgrims completed the yearly pilgrimage and Jubilee Year celebration at the Our Lady Queen of Peace Shrine on December 6, 2025, the Catholic Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Monrovia, Most Rev. Gabriel Blamo Snosio Jubwe, issued an inspiring call for national renewal, urging Liberians to embrace forgiveness, compassion, and moral courage.
God’s timeless inquiry to humanity, “Where are you?” now reverberates throughout Liberia, the Archbishop remarked in a highly moving homily, calling for introspection and social change. He warned that the country’s economic hardship, drug addiction crisis, and widespread poverty reveal a wounded nation in need of spiritual and moral transformation.
“Change your heart, my people. Change your heart,” the Archbishop declared, describing a renewed spirit as the only path toward healing families, strengthening communities, and restoring hope.
The head of the Catholic church in Liberia asked Catholics to mirror the courage and obedience of the Blessed Virgin Mary, whose “yes” to God, he said must inspire Liberians to choose forgiveness, unity, and service to the Church and nation.
He lamented the struggles of ordinary citizens, market women, street vendors, children endangered while selling sachet water and criticized the widening disparity between leaders’ lifestyles and the harsh realities faced by the poor. “When will they graduate from extreme poverty? When will they dream of is tomorrow?” he asked, noting that poverty, frustration, and insecurity have left many Liberians “immune to fear” as they fight daily for survival.
Also, Archbishop Jubwe condemned the surge of narcotics among young people; describing them as victims of a broken social structure plagued by neglect, greed, and exploitation. He said, “Let us go to the roots. Those responsible must be brought down,” calling for accountability in the fight against drugs.
The Archbishop urged Catholics to strengthen their commitment to parish life, transparency in church leadership, and greater service beyond personal or political interests. However, he challenged families to mend long-standing divisions, asserting that true healing must begin within the home.
As the Jubilee Year closed, the Archbishop reminded the faithful that no one should return home unchanged:
“You cannot make this journey and go back the same. Mary’s courage goes with you. All is not lost. Nothing is impossible with God.”
