CENTRAL Releases Third State of Corruption Report

BLAMING PUBLIC SECTOR CORRUPTION ON ABSENCE OF PUNISHMENT OF DISHONEST PUBLIC OFFICIALS

Monrovia, Liberia – The Centre for Transparency and Accountability in Liberia has highlighted the fact that the absence of prosecution of corrupt officials is a major contributor to public sector corruption in its third State of Corruption Report.

According to the CENTAL research, bribery and the government’s lack of political will to combat corruption are to blame for corruption’s national expansion. Ninety percent of the 728 respondents surveyed in nine counties for the report said that the increasing level of widespread corruption was to blame for Liberia’s underdevelopment.

Gerald Yeakula, programme manager for CENTAL, presented the report on Wednesday, December 13, 2023, in Monrovia. He stated that it gives the Liberian government more accountability for providing enough funding to anti-corruption organisations in the nation.

The CENTAL report aligns with the recent U.S. Treasury report on dishonest public servants who were sanctioned based on corruption and misappropriation of public funds.
