After receiving threats against her life after announcing her candidacy for the Grand Bassa County representative seat, Charlyne Brumskine, the daughter of Liberty Party founder Consular Charles Walker Brumskine, pleaded for unity in the divided Liberty party. The Liberty party’s split has been traced by Charlene Brumskine to the idealistic distinction between the two competing frictions.
She claims that tensions between two factions, one loyal to political leader Senator Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence, who is under fire, and the other to Chairman Musa Hassan Bility, who is under fire, have seriously undermined the peace in the Liberty. As widely assumed, the Consular clarifies that she has not sworn allegiance to any of the rival parties. She did, however, confirm that she recently wrote to the Liberty party’s executive committee to express her desire to run for office on the party’s ticket in the upcoming 2023 elections in Grand Bassa County.
She also expressed anger that her letter to the LP executive committee was made public and wondered why others had also chosen to politicize the letter at the same time. She took use of the opportunity to encourage senator Lawrence and the other members of the party’s executive committee to collaborate in order to uphold the legacy of her late father, Consular Charles Walker Brumskine.
She admonished other political parties in the nation, especially the current ruling coalition, the Coalition for Democracy Change, to learn from what is currently happening to the Liberty party. According to her, political parties in the nation should pay close attention to what is happening to the LP. She asserted that leaders of other political parties and stakeholders must work together to find solutions to the party’s current predicament.
After the passing of her father, some party members, according to the candidate for Bassa District #3 representative, never wanted senator Karnga-Lawrence to continue serving as the party’s political leader. However, after some persuasion, party officials agreed to keep her in that position. She will join the Wednesday, November 2, 2022, edition of OK morning Rush in Monrovia after we talked with both parties to discuss how to lessen the difficulties.
