Monrovia, Liberia – The People’s Republic of China has sharply expressed gratitude for President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s reaffirmation of the One China policy upon taking office. The Chinese, in less than 24 hours, wrote on it’s official Facebook page, ”We highly appreciate the reaffirmation of the one-China policy expressed by the President of the Republic of Liberia, H.E. Joseph Nyuma Boakai, upon assuming office.” President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, the 26th President of the Republic of Liberia, reiterated Liberia’s support for and dedication to the One China Policy, the People’s Republic of China’s foreign policy attitude toward other countries.
President Boakai reaffirmation close the growing concern in some quarters about the state of the country’s relationship with China due to the previous government’s posture towards China.
Speaking to Executive Mansion Reporters on Monday, January 29, 2024, before delivering his SONA Address, President Boakai reiterated his support for the One China Policy and said his administration will make every effort to ensure that ties between the two nations are reinforced. China has proven to be a dependable and strategic ally of Liberia, offering significant assistance in numerous areas of the nation’s development agenda, according to the president.
“We are committed to the One China Policy, and we have assured the Chinese about our commitment, and this, we do not intend to change.”
The People’s Republic of China has made significant contributions to Liberia’s development program, namely in the areas of infrastructure and enhancing young Liberians’ access to education, according to President Boakai.
