Monrovia, Liberia – The People’s Republic of China has sent a high-level 14-member delegation to Liberia, headed by Mr. Qin Weizhong, the mayor of Guangdong Province’s Shenzhen Municipal People’s Government.
It is anticipated that the delegation will stay in Liberia for three days. The purpose of the three-day official visit is to strengthen real-world collaboration between Shenzhen and Liberia in important fields such as agricultural development, cultural interaction, and trade and economic investment.
The visit is a direct result of the prosperous China-Liberia Trade and Investment Forum, which was held in Shenzhen in September 2024 as part of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Beijing Summit.
Through a mission from its Embassy in Beijing led by Ambassador D. Mckinley Thomas, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosted the seminar.
A statement from the Foreign Ministry states that strengthening strategic alliances in line with the ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development (AAID) has been the main goal of Foreign Minister Nyanti’s diplomatic visits to Asia.
Several Chinese towns, notably Shenzhen, one of the country’s most vibrant economic centers, made pledges as a result of the Dean of the Cabinet’s visit to China last year, which opened the door for talks on further cooperation in key sectors.
Mayor Qin’s and his delegation’s visit highlights the improving momentum between Liberia and China and is anticipated to pave the way for a number of bilateral cooperation initiatives, including those centered on commerce, agriculture, and cultural exchange.
Key topics of discussion will include infrastructural development, skills exchange initiatives, and investment prospects in Liberia’s agro-processing industry, with a focus on young innovation and entrepreneurship.
The team will tour certain critical locations for possible investment partnerships, engage in high-level business-to-business discussions, and meet with top government officials while in Liberia.
The Mayor of Shenzhen’s and his delegation’s historic visit marks the beginning of a new era in Liberia’s economic and political ties with the PRC.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs anticipates a fruitful and significant visit and expresses gratitude to the People’s Republic of China’s government and people for their ongoing bilateral cooperation.
