Coach Robert Lartey has vowed to end Watanga FC’s long-awaited trophy drought at the end of the 2021-2022 Orange 1st division National League season.
According to him, his goal is to turn the club into a trophy-winning team like the former Barrack Young Controllers (BYC) when they were dominant in Liberian football.
Watanga FC Coach who is popularly known in Liberian football as “Coach Pellah” spoke to Reports231 before their match with Mighty Barrolle last Sunday at the SKD practice pitch in Paynesville which they won by 4-1 to move them top of the league table with 36 points from 20 league matches with just two matches remaining.
Coach Pellah replaced Matthew Juluteh who moved to Mighty Barrolle during the mid-season.
” When I first took over, the players never knew my ideology and as a result, things started to get more difficult, but I think they are now getting to understand what I have brought to the table, Coach Pela said”.
“It came a time when I told them that I wanted to leave on grounds that they are not satisfied with my style of coaching, but they went to my house to appeal to me, he explained”.
“I can assure our fans a trophy this season based on the plans I have for the team. Watanga is not actually a title-winning club like other clubs and based on that, most of the players who come here to play come with that mentality of not winning titles, this will not be under my leadership once I am here as managed, he added”
Watanga FC will be crowned champions of the competition if they can win their remaining matches beginning with Freeport FC on April 10, 2022, followed by Monrovia Club Breweries on April 17, 2022.
