Council of Patriots expresses support for Henry Costa, as running mate to Unity Party Joe Boakai

Monrovia, Liberia – The Unity Party’s nominee for vice president in the 2023 presidential and parliamentary elections, Henry Costa, has received the backing of the Council of Patriots.

The well-known talk show host revealed on Thursday, March 23, 2023, that he would be thrilled if Ambassador Joseph Boakai chose him to be his running mate in the 2023 presidential and legislative elections during one of his regular talk shows.

Addressing a press conference in Monrovia Thursday, COP Secretary General, Joseph Vallai, who is also a strong member of the Unity Party, said Henry Costa has the necessary qualifications and requisite credentials to serve as running mate to former Vice President Joseph Boakai in the October polls.

According to the COP Secretary General, Mr. Costa has the popularity and number to give the Unity Party the votes and support to win the presidency against President George Weah.

According to him, Costa has braced himself as a remarkable and phenomenal figure in Liberian politics and talk show for a decade or more.

Vallai added that the UP went looking for costa in the second round of the 2017 general and presidential elections. George Weah was made a laughingstock at some point by Unity Party Partisans when Costa rejected the move to join the Coalition for Democratic Change for the UP.

“The UP and even his detractors acknowledge that Costa has consistently been a strong teammate. When it was made public on the Costa program, the famous recording of Weah yearning to “recruit Costa” became very popular. Additionally, Costa has established himself as a major influence on public opinion, and his choice at this point in the nation’s history will be greeted with jubilation. Given the voting population in Liberia today, the youth is one of the many variables that will make a Boakai/Costa ticket strong.”

The COP Secretary General asserted that the time is now because, as it may be recalled, Mr. George Weah himself preyed on this same youthful populace to cling to state power.

At 41, he believes Costa will be the youngest vice president in Liberia’s history, a distinction that all young people will celebrate.

A sharp surge will be sent across the nation, in Mr. Vallai’s opinion, if a firebrand Costa, 41, and a 78-year-old Joseph Boakai are combined.

He emphasized that it would be hypocritical for them to be vying for young voters while simultaneously believing that young people have no place in the country’s government.

The COP Secretary General stated that the worst choice the UP and Boakai will ever make is to lose Costa over this squabble.

“Young leadership is visible in all of President George Weah’s excesses of this regime today, and Pres. WEAH himself is a product of a youthful charisma and platform.”

He concluded that as they rally the nation for greater and better opportunities for all, the Unity Party and Liberia won’t lament appointing Henry Costa as vice president.
