The Standard Bearer of the opposition Collaborating Political Parties has accused President George Weah of violating the rules set by the National Elections Commission for the 2023 presidential and legislative elections. President Weah used the state of the nation address, to announce his bid for the second term in the presidential elections.
On Saturday, February 4, 2023, the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) held a massive rally to nominate President Weah to contest for the second term in the presidential elections. According to the National Elections Commission, the campaign will begin on August 5th and end on October 8, 2023.
Speaking in an interview with the Voice of America Day Break Africa, Alexander Cummings said President Weah and his political team are trying to get ahead of the electoral campaign schedule because they are panicking. According to him, President Weah is doing so because he knows well that he cannot win the second term.
However, in response to the ANC political leader, Information Minister Ledgerhood Rennie termed the claims as baseless and misleading to the public. Minister Rennie told the Voice of America, Day-Break Africa, that Mr. Cummings is nervous about the massive turnout at the One Million Citizens’ Rally nomination program of President George Weah.
