DSIK OUTGOING REPRESENTATIVE WARNS LCUNA NEW BOARD OF DIRECTORS.
Gbarnga, Bong County – The Liberia Credit Union National Association has inaugurated its ne core of officials to lead the institution. According to Baboucarr Jeng, the outgoing country representative for Liberia and Sierra Leone for the German Savings Bank for International Cooperation (DSIK), the newly elected Board of Directors of the Liberia Credit Union National Association (LCUNA) must be transparent and accountable.
In Liberia, both urban and rural communities rely heavily on the financial services provided by credit unions. The sector’s pinnacle organization, LCUNA, collaborates with primary credit unions, which are widespread across the nation’s political divisions.
Mr. Jeng claimed that because credit unions are financial cooperatives, certain financial ethics must be observed. The newly elected Board of Directors of LCUNA were advised by the Gambian financial expert to always be honest and accountable to their members. He spoke in Gbarnga, Bong County during LCUNA Annual General Assembly (AGA).
For her part, Madam Yogie Mulbah Sirleaf, the chairperson of the Board of Directors, committed to sustain the positive trend of credit unions. But Madam Sirleaf vowed to do everything in her power to save Liberia’s credit unions and transform them into the best.
She added that, in contrast to Liberia, other West African nations were employing credit unions to raise their citizens’ living standards. The chair of the LCUNA Board committed to rebuilding the confidence and trust that had formerly been placed in Liberia’s credit unions.
The AGA brought together delegates from seven major credit unions in the country including other local and international partners.
