Hundreds of Liberia-crossed border traders in Southeastern Liberia have launched a passionate plea for the government of Liberia to reopen border entry points in the region. Many of those making the calls are from Grand Gedeh County.
It can be recalled the government of Liberia ordered all border entry points in Liberia including those in the southeast closed due to the outbreak of COVID-19 in an attempt to curb the further spread of the virus.
The business people mainly from Grand Gedeh noted that crossed border trade has slowed significantly thereby having a crippling effect on the local economy on the area and the livelihood of those at the margin of society.
According to them, the road leading from Grand Gedeh to Monrovia has also posed a serious challenge to transporting their goods from that part of Liberia. With new evidence emerging from locals of the Southeastern belt, this means that the border crossing points in those counties have remained closed for nearly two years running.
