Cummings Declares; “I am prepared for the challenge”

Monrovia, Liberia – Alexander B. Cummings, the political leader of the Alternative National Congress (ANC), has stated that he is confident in his capacity to lead Liberia, claiming that his leadership qualifications and work experience distinguish him from other political players.

Cummings cited his corporate and leadership experience as evidence of his preparedness to lead the nation. Cummings acknowledged that running Liberia is a difficult task, but stated that he is up to the task.  “I am prepared for the challenge.” He noted that thou it is a difficult job, he trust that he can run the country with confidence.

Speaking on the OK Conversation’s Monday, February 2, 2026, broadcast, Cummings stated that discipline, bravery, and a readiness to face Liberia’s most urgent issues such as the country’s economic difficulties and subpar public service delivery are necessary for effective leadership.

In response to public rumors about his sexual orientation, the leader of the ANC denied them as false and unconnected to his capacity for leadership. He called the claims “baseless distractions” and maintained that such issues had no bearing on national leadership or governance.

Although he has worked with gay people in professional contexts, Cummings stated that he does not endorse same-sex relationships and that his personal views should not be confused with issues of leadership ability. To the issue of governance, Cummings commended the government for reaching a declared financial milestone of US$1.2 billion, describing it as a significant achievement.

He however, criticized the administration for failing to translate these successes into meaningful progress for ordinary Liberians, particularly those working in the informal sector. In order to increase economic prospects, Cummings argued that the government should provide market women and small-business owners with priority access to low-interest loans.

He maintained that giving small business owners more control would boost the country’s economy and raise living standards. In his remarks on road connectivity, Cummings emphasized that building new roads is not enough, while acknowledging the continuous efforts to upgrade infrastructure nationwide. He noted that expenditures in health care, education, and job creation must be of major concern.

According to Cummings, his leadership approach is based on accountability, workable solutions, and a renewed focus on the daily needs of the Liberian people.
