Cummings Pledges to address Liberia’s Economic issues and invest USD$10 million in women’s empowerment, when elected

Monrovia, Liberia – Alternative National Congress political leader Mr. Alexander Cummings hosted a one-day dialogue conference with Liberian businesswomen and pledged, if elected, to address the country’s economic issues and invest ten million US dollars in initiatives aimed at empowering women.

According to the ANC Standard Bearer, this will be accomplished by specific guarantee programs for SMEs to lower the risk for the nation’s financial lending institutions. He mentioned that the National Investment Commission and the Ministry of Commerce and Industry will assist business development initiatives to help small firms, especially those owned by women, improve their ability to get financing and manage their operations.

As a businessman and former corporate executive, Cummings bemoaned the huge effect that women’s entrepreneurship can have on the social, economic, political, and cultural growth of the nation. Highlighting how their entrepreneurial and business endeavors will boost their family’s income and overall well-being. He meanwhile blasted the CDC Government for doing little for women empowerment.

He argued that women’s entrepreneurship will not only empower women but also boost their self-esteem and confidence when making decisions that have an impact on their own lives, promote their families, and the welfare of the country. it will promote quick growth and inclusive economic development by empowering women in business. A margin of preference for enterprises run and owned by women will be included in the business-linkage schemes.

The senior leader of the ANC said it is unfortunate that so little has been done in a lasting and effective manner to support women’s progress and prosperity, despite the significant role they play in economic growth, job creation, and social empowerment.

”Young and old businesswomen alike beg for help every day, pointing out that women aren’t actively engaging in the economy. The CPP government will negotiate with commercial banks through the Central Bank of Liberia for reduced lending rates for enterprises, particularly those run by women entrepreneurs, he said, using the occasion to inform the women.”

In Monrovia, during a day-long session with businesswomen, the CPP standard bearer announced the accession on Wednesday, April 12, 2023.
