Dr. Adesina to visit Liberia and launch a youth entrepreneurship investment bank.

Monrovia, Liberia – Dr. Akinwumi A. Adesina, out going president of the African Development Bank (AfDB), will officially launch a youth development program and be recognized nationally for his influential development leadership while in Liberia from July 21 to July 23.

Renowned for his proficiency in development economics and agriculture, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina has been the head of the AfDB since his election on May 28, 2015, in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. Importantly, this visit comes as his term as the bank’s seventh president comes to an end in September.

In addition to highlighting their shared objectives of sustainable development and economic transformation through youth innovation, the visit also underlines the strategic collaboration between Liberia and the AfDB. He is scheduled to meet with President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. for a breakfast and courtesy meeting on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, to talk about Liberia’s economic future and current development projects.

After that, Dr. Adesina will speak to a High-Level Expanded Cabinet, which will include the president’s advisors, managing directors of state-owned businesses, heads and dupties of public commissions and agencies, senior cabinet deputy ministers, and assistant ministers.

The Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Ministerial Complex will host the high-level extended cabinet meeting at ten in the morning. In recognition of Dr. Adesina’s ten years of leadership at the AfDB and his contributions to Liberia’s development program, the Liberian government will honor him.

The official launch, with Dr. Adesina serving as the principal launcher, will take place at the Ministerial Complex hall of the Innovation Bureau. The Youth Entrepreneurship Investment Bank (YEIB) will be a major feature of the day. The goal of this AfDB-backed project is to increase young Liberians’ access to sustainable funding and entrepreneurship education.

A presidential dinner given by President Boakai will mark the end of the day’s events and honor Dr. Adesina’s legacy as well as the solid alliance between Liberia and the AfDB. The departure of Dr. Adesina is anticipated on Wednesday morning, signifying a significant milestone in Liberia’s partnership with the AfDB and demonstrating the gratitude of people for his vision and impact on the continent’s growth.
