Monrovia, Liberia – The newly appointed Officer-in-Charge and Interim Director General of the National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL), Dr. Sia Wata Camanor, has vowed to bring transformative reforms, professionalism, and renewed strength to Liberia’s public health sector.

‎Speaking at her assumption of office ceremony on October 20, 2025, Dr. Camanor expressed heartfelt appreciation to President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., for entrusting her with the leadership of NPHIL based on the recommendation of the institute’s Board of Directors. She described the appointment as both an honor and a responsibility to serve the country at a crucial time.

“This is more than just a job; it represents a new era for NPHIL and a new start for the defense and development of Liberia’s public health system,” she said.

In addition, Dr. Camanor expressed gratitude to Health Minister Dr. Louise M. Kpoto for her support and confidence, characterizing it as an encouragement to serve with bravery, skill, and empathy. She also assured her dedication to openness, responsibility, and institutional development while praising Board Chairman Dr. Stephen Kennedy and Board members for their assistance during what she described as a crucial transitional time.

Speaking to the staff of NPHIL, whom she affectionately called the institution’s heart beat, Dr. Camanor commended their diligence and commitment. She declared, “You are the guardians of Liberia’s public health. From epidemiologists and laboratory scientists to field officers and logisticians, your steadfast dedication is the cornerstone of our country’s health security.”

‎Outlining her vision for the future, Dr. Camanor pledged to strengthen NPHIL through capacity building, modernized laboratories, improved surveillance systems, and enhanced local and international collaboration.
