Capitol Hill, Monrovia – The Executive Mansion, through its Presidential Press Secretary, Atty. Kula Fofana, declared that the July 17 panned protest is “more political than genuine” as the July 17th protest draws closer. “We have seen and heard from other actors who have looked at the intent of the protest, we see it more as a political process than a genuine protest,” Atty. Fofana said during the Executive Mansion weekly press briefing.
“Liberia is a democratic country where people can protest as long as they follow the rules and regulations set forth by the governing assembly,” she told reporters. In addition to having the right to assemble, she argued that citizens should be granted the required licenses by the appropriate authorities.
Atty. Fofana explained, “I am not sure they have asked to meet the president,” in response to a question about whether President Joseph N. Boakai was ready to having discussions with the protest organizers. “None of the information I have received indicates that they asked to meet with the president.“
“The president is always open to meeting citizens across the nation,” she added, noting that if the organizers wish to meet with him, President Boakai will be willing to do so in order to hear their concerns.”
The Liberia National Police acknowledge receiving letter from STAND. In response to the group, a letter signed by Col. Wilson W. Boe, Sr., Coordinator, Joint Security noted that, “We extend our compliments and acknowledge receipt of your letter dated July 3, 2025, serving as official notification for a peaceful protest scheduled for July 15-17, 2025, with the theme “Enough is Enough.” Mulbah K.
