Monrovia, Liberia – The management of Ecobank Liberia has launched the country’s first credit card on Wednesday. The card, which was launched on May 29, 2024,  at a local resort in Monrovia, will offer various benefits and feature to customers.

These include the ability to make purchases online and in-store, access to a wide range of rewards and discounts, and the ability to withdraw cash from ATMs.

Dr. Edward Narty Botchway, Managing Director of Ecobank Liberia, stressed the bank’s dedication to provide clients simple and cutting-edge financial solutions in his opening remarks.

”This evening marks an important milestone in our journey towards transforming into the bank we all aspire to be. This product is long overdue and a testament to the hard work of our staff.”

According to Mr. Botchway, this credit card is the first in a line of several new offerings designed to improve user ease and financial independence.

Botchway emphasized that the bank’s continuous commitment to providing creative and practical financial solutions is reflected in the new credit card, which is a monument to the diligence and commitment of Ecobank employees.

He listed the new credit card’s useful advantages. Consumers have the independence to make purchases and take out cash, making this a vital financial tool for those moments when extra cash is required.

Botchway urged everyone to think about getting a credit card, pointing out its benefits and the assurance it offers in handling personal money.

The chairman of Ecobank Liberia’s board of directors, Cllr. Negbalee Warner, commended the launch and called it a noteworthy accomplishment for the bank.
He underlined how the credit card may be used to satisfy both personal and professional demands while boosting the economy of the country.

Warner positioned Ecobank as a client-focused organization that leads the industry in digital financial products and offers easy payment options.

He characterized Ecobank as a bank that prioritizes its customers and is committed to offering easy payment options. Warner stated that the digital offerings of the bank aim to improve financial transactions and bolster Liberia’s economic expansion.

The Central Bank of Liberia’s Deputy Governor for Economic Policy, Dr. Musa Dukuly, gave the keynote speech and expressed his excitement for the new product.

He emphasized how the launch would affect efficiency and financial inclusion in Liberia.
According to Dr. Dukuly, financial inclusion in Liberia has greatly improved, with a current inclusion rate of 36%, well over the original goal of 15%.

He emphasized that the new credit card supports the global shift towards cashless transactions, which enhances financial efficiency and promotes economic growth.

“The introduction of Ecobank’s credit card is expected to have a positive impact on Liberia’s economy by providing individuals with access to credit and facilitating easier transactions. This move aligns with the broader goal of creating a more inclusive and efficient financial system in Liberia.”

Dr. Dukuly reiterated the Central Bank’s dedication to fostering financial sector innovations, which are essential for the expansion and stability of the economy.

He congratulated Ecobank on being a pioneer in digital financial services and urged other organizations to embrace comparable advancements.

Meanwhile, the launch of Ecobank Liberia’s credit card marks a significant advancement in the country’s financial services sector.

It illustrates Ecobank’s commitment to innovation and consumer convenience and advances the country’s overall objectives of financial inclusion and economic prosperity.
