ECOWAS DEMANDS RESTRICTIONS ON CAPITOL HILL

Monrovia, Liberia – The violent disputes between protesters and police on December 17, 2024, have been heavily condemned by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), which has expressed increasing worry about the rise of violence in Monrovia.

In a statement the Special Representative of the ECOWAS Commission President to Liberia, H.E Josephine Nkrumah, ECOWAS call on the Liberia National Police and other protestors to exercise restraint while pursuing their individual mandates and rights.

ECOWAS also urges the security services to look into the cause of the Capitol Building fire as soon as possible on Wednesday morning and release the results of their inquiry.

In line with the Republic of Liberia’s Constitution, ECOWAS urged everyone to uphold the rule of law and democratic principles.

For long-term peace and stability in Liberia and the subregion, ECOWAS calls for sincere restoration of disagreements.
