Monrovia, Liberia – The Sixth Legislature Joint Committee on Administration, Finance, Macroeconomic Policy, Research, and Public Accounts of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has commenced a five-day conference in Monrovia, Liberia.
The conference is being held under the theme: “Assessing the Effectiveness of ECOWAS Investment Policy as an Instrument for Addressing the Rising Levels of Unemployment in the Sub-region.”
Over the course of the conference, participants are expected to discuss the root causes of unemployment across the sub-region and explore strategies to address them effectively.
Liberia’s head of delegation to ECOWAS, Edwin Snowe, welcomed delegates at the opening of the conference and expressed gratitude to ECOWAS for selecting Liberia as the host country.
Snowe described ECOWAS as a focused and determined partner committed to addressing many of the challenges faced by member states in the region.
Also speaking during the opening ceremony, ECOWAS Fourth Deputy Speaker, Hon. Billay Tunkara, urged participants to make the most of the conference by working toward sustainable solutions to the persistent issue of unemployment.
Providing an overview of the event, Chairperson of the Joint Committee, Hon. Alhagie Darbo, emphasized that the gathering is a fulfillment of ECOWAS’s commitment to regional development.
According to Hon. Darbo, discussions during the five-day conference will not only center on ECOWAS’s investment policy but also tackle other pressing issues affecting member states.
